Welcome
Welcome to Si-lwlis website where I, Nia Bowen, the proprietor
hope you will find this website interesting and helpful. I was
fortunate to purchase Si-lwli in January 2002 which had a 10year
history of caring for children through the medium of Welsh.
It
was always my ambition to work with children from an early age
and began pursuing a career in childcare. Following completion
of the NNEB course in Ammanford I went on to become a paediatric
nurse but always had a desire to go back and work in a nursery.
I was brought up with strong values and learnt the importance
of being part of a close community in rural West Wales. With these
qualities and my belief for the right of all children to learn
through play I felt I wanted to offer a high quality care for
Welsh speakers and learners of Cardiff.
About Us
We
pride ourselves on the friendly, supportive and interactive care
provided when meeting the holistic needs of the boys and girls
within our homely, colourful and stimulating environment. This
is only possible due to our commitment of good communication and
building of strong relationships between ourselves, the children
and their parents. All the children are cared for as individuals
irrespective of their colour, gender, religion, ability, race,
disability and creed. We welcome children with special needs, providing
the environment and care is appropriate to their individual requirements
Values
1. We will respect our nursery and each other equally
2. We will ensure good communication between staff, children
and parents in order to provide the best possible care and will
always ensure confidentiality.
3. We aim to create a warm, friendly, homely, happy and safe
environment.
4. We promote positive behaviour and attitudes.
5. We aim to provide a range of different activities to ensure
an exciting and fun environment.
6. We encourage everyone to follow policies and procedures set
by nursery staff in order to achieve shared goals
Admission Guidelines
We
are governed by and registered with the CSIW (Care Standards Inspectorate
for Wales). Our recent inspection reports may be viewed on their
website. The adult to child ratio we adhere to in both nurseries
are as follows:
• 6 month-2yrs one member of staff to 3 children
• 2-3yrs one member of staff to 4 children
• 3-4yrs one member of staff to 8 children
The conditions of the registration govern each nursery and are
the overriding policy in respect of any admission we register.
Children are admitted to Si-lwli according to the parent/carers
requirements. Other matters taken into account in deciding which
child can be offered a place are
• We hold a waiting list, and priority will be given
to those parents who complete and return the registration form.
• Availability of spaces
• A child requiring a full time place will have preference
over a part time place
• Children who are siblings of those already with us.
• Our ability to provide the facilities for the welfare
of the child.
• There is no discrimination made when children register.
We comply with the 1989 Children’s Act Opportunities Act.
We establish effective communication and trusting relationships
with parents ensuring both parties work as a team so that each
child achieves their full potential. Our ultimate aim is to work
in harmony with the families ensuring the children leave Si-lwli
as happy, independent, and healthy individuals ready to face the
world.
